2006 Independent Food Festival & Awards
There are no prizes or trophies at the Independent Food Festival & Awards. There is not an actual festival, either. It exists only in cyberspace, but I think you will celebrate none the less.
The Independent Food Festival & Awards, hosted by tasteeverything.org, recognize outstanding culinary products and food producers. They celebrate the small, independent artisans who daily fight for their existence against the mega-shops that surround them. The awards are chosen by selected food bloggers from around the world. The idea is that the more people that know about these great foods, the more people will buy them, creating a greater demand.
Some of my favorite awards include:
- Most Addictive, Counterintuitive Dried Fruit Award= Dried Cantaloupe
- The Beautiful Honey of the Beautiful Big Island of Hawaii Award = Hawaiian Organic White Honey
- The Best Things to Stick to Your Marshmallow Award = Scharffen Berger Chocolate Covered Cacao Nibs
- The Best Sunday Dinner Chicken You'll Ever Get Your Hands On Award = TLC (Taste Like Chicken) Ranch
- World's Most Luxurious Ice Cream Award = White Truffle Ice Cream with White Bean and Fig
- Best Result of Pigs Gone Wild Award = Wild Boar Bacon
- Best Place to Eat Oysters Off The Hood or Roof of a Car on a Sunny Winter Afternoon in Paris Award = Le Baron Rouge near the Marché Aligre
