The ginger martini is a simple cocktail that features the spicy flavor of a ginger liqueur, such as Domaine de Canton. This liqueur is made with Asian baby ginger, French cognac, Provencal honey, Tahitian vanilla, and orange blossom. Domaine de Canton was previously made in China but has been produced in France since 2007. The Domaine de Canton gives the ginger martini a snappy profile and makes the drink an easy and flavorful upgrade from the popular vodka martini.

Our measurements for the drink do feature a lot of ginger flavor, but if after you've mixed and tried it, you feel that this recipe uses too much ginger for your taste, cut the liqueur down to a single ounce and adjust the vodka to two ounces. You could garnish this cocktail with a thin slice of fresh or candied ginger, but it might be too much ginger flavor for some, despite the pretty look. A quick twist of lemon essence expressed over the drink is a better complement.

Although Domaine de Canton is well known amongst bartenders, not everyone has had the chance to try a sip of this fantastic liquor. Poured over ice, a glass of Domaine is an excellent digestif. If you can't find Domaine de Canton, other ginger liquors like the King's Ginger is a good substitution, similar in quality and price. The main difference is that the Domaine has a stronger flavor of raw ginger root, whereas the King's is sweeter, while maintaining a great ginger profile.

How Strong Is the Ginger Martini?

This ginger martini recipe is made almost entirely of alcohol, so it is only reasonable that it is not a light drink. If made with an 80-proof vodka and Domaine de Canton, the cocktail has an alcoholic content of 26 percent ABV (52 proof). That is normal for a boozy martini, but not as light as other mixed drinks can be.
