Eat Like a Movie Star

By , About.com Guide

After the Academy Award presentation, the Oscar show guests are treated to a wonderful dinner prepared by Chef Wolfgang Puck. Why not treat your guests to an equally amazing feast by preparing some delicious treats fit for a movie star. Here is a selection of appetizers, desserts and cocktails to keep your guests satisfied while everyone enjoys the show.

1. Beef Carpaccio with Arugula, Parmesan, and Balsamic Vinegar

This is a very simple recipe that celebrates good beef. It may be used as wonderful starter for a dinner party or as an elegant hors d’oeuvres.

2. Caviar with Blinis and Crème Fraîche

The delicate taste of caviar should be enjoyed on its own. Two traditional accompaniments, blinis and crème fraîche, will add to the experience without overwhelming the caviar.

3. Crab Cakes with Watercress and Blood Oranges

Watercress and blood oranges add color and a refreshing counterpoint to the fresh seafood. Grapefruit and arugula are also a good combination for this dish.

4. Duck and Roasted Garlic Quesadillas with Tomatillo Salsa

Flavorful, well-balanced, and not too spicy, these duck and roasted garlic quesadillas make wonderful appetizers for a get together with friends or a fancy cocktail party.

5. Flourless Chocolate Cake with Crème Anglaise

Flourless chocolate cake is a beautifully rich dessert. You will find it on the menu of many upscale restaurants but it is quite simple to make. I like to serve this with crème anglaise. Vanilla and chocolate naturally compliment each other and you get a nice contrast in temperatures and textures.

6. Classic Crème Brûlée

Crème brûlée is a very popular dessert that you will find in almost every fine dining restaurant. The smooth creamy custard contrasts very nicely with the crunch of the hardened sugar topping.

7. Meyer Lemon Pound Cake with Citrus Syrup

Meyer lemons are beautiful fruit. Originating in China, Meyer lemons are thought to be a cross between lemons and Mandarin oranges. They are slightly sweeter than regular lemons. They work great in this delicious pound cake.

8. Sparkling Fresh Berry Champagne

Here's a delightful champagne cocktail that will impress your guests. Wonderfully fruity, use fresh raspberries if you can find them.

9. Mexican Sangria

Sangria is a traditional Spanish drink that combines wine with fruit and a little sugar. This Mexican version is a similar fruity concotion but has a higher level of alcohol which makes it great for pairing with spicy foods. Always use a decent wine when making sangria, as the wine will be the most prominent flavor.

10. Blue Violet Martini

Definitely an uncommon cocktail. Hpnotiq, Chambord, and Absolut Raspberri combined for a delicious cocktail that will wow your guests.
