La Conca D'Oro

By Brett Moore, About.com

Here is a beautiful and delicious gin cocktail that uses 3 fruit juices: grapefruit, blood orange, and lime.

Award-winning recipe from Proof on Main (Louisville, KY) bartender, Jenny Pittman, in the 2008 Louisville Iron Bartender Competition.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • whole grapefruit
  • 1/2 blood orange
  • 1/2 lime
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup*

Preparation:

Fill shaker tin with ice, add gin and simple syrup.

Add squeezed juice from grapefruit, blood orange, and lime.

Shake and strain into a martini glass.

For garnish, cut thin slice of blood orange and drop in drink (it will float on the top)

*Simple Syrup: 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water. Combine water and sugar in medium pot and bring to a boil. Turn heat to a simmer and cook for an additional 5 minutes or so until the sugar is completely dissolved. Transfer to another container and refrigerate until needed.
