The James Beard Foundation is the most prestigious organization in the professional culinary world. Formed in 1986, the James Beard Foundation was created by Julia Child and Peter Kump to preserve the home of James Beard and his legacy as America's father of gastronomy. The annual James Beard Foundation Awards honor the best chefs and restaurant professionals in the industry. Here are the 2007 nominees:

"CHEFS WHO HAVE SET NEW OR CONSISTENT STANDARDS OF EXCELLENCE IN THEIR RESPECTIVE REGIONS. CHEFS MAY BE FROM ANY KIND OF DINING ESTABLISHMENT AND MUST HAVE BEEN A WORKING CHEF FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS. THE THREE MOST RECENT YEARS MUST HAVE BEEN SPENT IN THE REGION WHERE CHEF IS PRESENTLY WORKING." - James Beard Foundation
