Obamas Choose Sam Kass for Personal White House Chef

Supporter of Organic, Sustainable, and Local Foods

The Obamas have chosen Chicago chef Sam Kass to act as the family's personal chef at the White House. Kass also worked as a private chef for the Obamas while they were living in Chicago. Kass, of course, will not be the family's only cook and will work as an assistant to White House Executive Chef Cristeta Comerford. He will be filling a staff vacancy and will be paid by the government and not the Obamas. Sam Kass knows what the Obamas like to eat and is very into healthy cooking and using local ingredients.

A Chicago native, Sam Kass is a graduate of the University of Chicago. Kass trained in Europe and was a line chef at the Mediterranean restaurant, Avec in Chicago. He went on to start a private chef company, Inevitable Table. Last year Kass headed the kitchen at Chicago’s Jane Addams Hull-House Museum which has soup luncheons every Tuesday.

Chef Kass is very involved with food related issues such as childhood obesity, sustainability, and shopping local. Sam's passionate stance on using local foods and local farmers could also signal the creation of a White House vegetable garden. Now wouldn't that be something...
