I'm not usually a fan of large encyclopedic cookbooks that try to cover everything from A to Z. Typically, the only thing they achieve is being mediocre at everything. I was pleasantly surprised when I read the The New York Times Dessert Cookbook. Far from being mediocre, it is actually quite extraordinary. Florence Fabricant, a long-time writer for the Times "Dining & Wine" section, has collected 10 years of dessert recipes from the Times featuring celebrity chefs, famous columnists, and award-winning restaurants. Some of the 440 superb recipes include:
Nigella Lawson's Mango Cheesecake
Amanda Hesser's Chocolate Black Pepper Cake
Limoncello Babas with Lemon Cream from Felidia in New York.
Claudia Fleming's Chocolate Caramel Tart
Susan Spicer's Strawberries with Pink Peppercorn Sauce
Jamie Oliver's Panna Cotta with Pomegranate
The New York Times Dessert Cookbook is sure to become a popular title for every kitchen cookbook collection.
