Bernard Loiseau was one of only 25 chefs to earn the coveted 3 stars from the Michelin Red Guide. In February, 2003, Loiseau took his own life, soon after rumors that his restaurant would lose one of its stars (this rumor proved to be unfounded). In The Perfectionist, journalist Rudolph Chelminski (Loiseau's friend for three decades) describes Loiseau's rise in the culinary world and looks at the unforgiving world of the French food scene.
